BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Samsung Engineering's business development personnel are responsible for identifying, analyzing, and exploring new business opportunities in order to enable successful implementation of corporate strategy and ensure the company's continued growth. Members of Samsung Engineering's business development arm manage corporate cash flow so as to guarantee maximum profitability through efficient distribution of corporate resources. They are also responsible for supervising and administering new third-party supplier contracts and protecting the company from exposure to contractual and legal risks. Ultimately, employees in the field of business development utilize their organizational expertise, EPC experience, market-trend analytics, and professional networks to help turn opportunities into successes.
MARKETING & SALES
Marketing and sales personnel are tasked with formulating mid- to long-term marketing strategies by analyzing data collected on key countries, regions, markets, clients, competitors, and technological suppliers. This analysis is then used to identify the optimal marketing and sales policies for securing new contracts and exploring new markets. Members of this important unit are also responsible for pricing products and services, suggesting technical alternatives, producing risk-mitigation proposals, and establishing, maintaining, and building long-lasting relationships with clients.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Samsung Engineering's project management professionals plan and execute EPC ventures; function as mediators between the company and its clients, technology partners, affiliates, and other vested parties; and coordinate with various departments within the organization to ensure continuous project progress, successful completion, and maximum return for the company. Project management personnel are also responsible for addressing VOC studies in a prompt and effective manner and for mitigating the various risk factors that arise over the course of a given project. Other responsibilities include setting and implementing project budgets, ensuring that the project stays on schedule, and managing all project-related contracts, claims, and documents.
ENGINEERING
Engineering personnel are mainly responsible for producing optimal engineering plans based on the project's specification requirements. Engineering specialists coordinate with the relevant technical personnel and utilize value engineering and alternative engineering practices to optimize the project's cost profile. Engineering competencies include both basic engineering subsets—such as process, mechanical, equipment, electrical, control, civil, construction, and structural—and specialized engineering subsets—such as HVAC, material, fire-protection, vibration, and dHSE. Due to the crucial role engineering plays in all construction processes, each engineering team must collaborate intimately with all other engineering, procurement, and construction departments.
PROCUREMENT
Procurement personnel are responsible for sourcing and procuring the equipment, tools, and materials specified in the project's engineering schematics at an optimal price point. Additional responsibilities include supervision of manufacturing processes, delivery schedules, transportation, customs clearance, insurance, and financing. To execute these responsibilities effectively, procurement personnel must analyze relevant market intelligence gathered from manufacturers and technology partners to generate strategies for mid- to long-term procurement operations. Procurement personnel are also responsible for coordinating with Samsung Engineering's regional procurement centers around the world to streamline the company's global procurement processes and support successful executions of any projects taking place overseas.
CONSTRUCTION
Construction personnel are responsible for establishing and implementing construction plans as well as handling important quality assurance protocols:
  • Field control: oversee construction cost control (budgeting, cost management, and P&L analysis); construction schedule management; and contract management (reviewing, signing, and supervision of all construction-related contracts).
  • Construction management: ensure materials and equipment arrive at the site on time and are utilized in accordance with the engineering and construction plans.
  • Construction support: guarantee efficient management of onsite personnel, steady delivery of site supplies and equipment, and erection and management of temporary structures.
  • Commissioning: prepare the finished plant for its initial startup and produce prototype samples to verify that the plant is running as it was originally designed.
QHSE
Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) personnel are responsible for establishing and implementing QHSE policies; ensuring all quality, safety, health, and environment standards are met throughout the entire organization; and maintaining the company's QHSE certifications. QHSE personnel are also responsible for establishing quality standards and implementation strategies for individual projects.
